Caryn Bopp (b. 1977 United States) is a painter and printmaker interested in the colors, lines, and textures of the natural world, and how these affect her mental state. Bopp graduated with a M.F.A. in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia in 2018, earned her B.F.A. in Sculpture from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston in 1999, and her M.Ed. from Northern Arizona University in Secondary Education in 2006. She has received numerous scholarships and awards, including The Laseter Drawing and Paintings Scholarship from Penland School of Crafts, and The Power of Art award from the Lab School in Washington DC, funded by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, as well as several grants from the Arizona Commission on the Arts for professional development. She has shown her work in Arizona, South Dakota, Michigan, and Georgia. Bopp developed her painting style after moving from Massachusetts to Arizona. Her work became less representational and started using the colors of the Southwest. She currently spends half her time on a 40 acre desert farm with big skies and silence, both painting and growing food. Her recent thesis show, titled, Aggregate, explored the effects of human interaction with nature and how the decay in pristine open spaces affects the mind, a series inspired by being out on this remote land. |
